DIY Body Scrubs

Everyone loves a great body scrub. And everyone pays a pretty penny sometimes for really good ones. Well, in my travels across the internet I have found some awesome recipes to make your own with stuff that you more than likely have in your own kitchen! Let me know if you try one and tell me how it turns out!!

Banana Sugar Body Scrub

When the bananas are starting to brown, grab those beauties and put them to use. This one skips the oil and relies purely on the benefit of banana and the gently abrasive sugar.

• 1 ripe banana
• 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
• ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or your favorite essential oil (optional)

Smash ingredients together with a fork into a chunky goop. Don't over-mash or it will become too thin. If you want a banana scrub for your face, reserve some of the banana and mash it separately without sugar. In the shower, pat the sugar mixture and gently massage over your body. For your face, gently massage plain banana there, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.

Lemon Salt Scrub

• 5 tablespoons sea salt
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 lemon

 Step 1: Mix the Olive Oil and sea salt together well. You need to be sure that the salt is coated in the oil so that it isn’t dissolved by the lemon.

Step 2: Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice over the salt mixture. Mix well and mash to the consistency of your liking. If you need more or less scent, just adjust the lemon juice!

DIY Honey Scrub

Add 1 teaspoon pure honey to 1/4 cup light olive oil. Blend with 1 cup raw or granulated sugar. Mix in 2 teaspoon fresh citrus zest. Blend until well mixed, then store in a jar.

DIY Coconut Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub

Ingredients

1 cup raw organic sugar (or brown sugar)

½ cup extra virgin olive oil, or grapeseed oil or almond oil

10 drops vanilla essential oil

1-2 tablespoons coconut oil

Method

In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Add more or less oil depending on how oily you like your scrub.

Scoop the mixture into a reusable container, like a mason jar, pickle jar or previously used beauty product container.

Slather across your skin in the shower and enjoy!

DIY Honey Kisses Lip Scrub

1 tablespoon of white sugar

1 tablespoon of raw honey

few drops of vanilla extract.

Mix, let it sit on your lips for about 15 minutes, scrub away, enjoy!

Rosemary Lavender Salt Scrub

For a relaxing end to your day, draw yourself a nice warm bath and unwind with this soothing scrub. It'll get you to your happy place in no time.

2 cups salt, kosher
1/4 cup olive oil
3 tbsp lavender, culinary grade
3 tbsp rosemary leaves, finely chopped

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy. This scrub can also be applied to the more delicate neck and facial area (other scrubs, in general, though, are too harsh to use on your face or neck)

DIY Makeup Tower

So like most girls I have this little habit that is called "I buy more makeup than I need" and because of this my bathroom counter was always covered in powders, potions, pots of colour and pencils all the colours of the rainbow. Finally something had to be done. It was getting out of hand. I started looking at these awesome three tiered towers online that sites were selling to store all my stuff! But the price tags? No thank you. 30 dollars? 40 dollars? Yeah, nope! So I decided I would try to make my own for a fraction of the cost! Here is what I came up with.

Yup, there it is. Piled all with all my stuff. How did I make it? Easy!

Go to your local store that sells those terra cotta bottoms for planters and get the 3 different sizes! Plus I picked up a pack of little tiny pots to serve as the spaced between the tiers. 

Next pick out the colours that you want for all your levels! They can be all the same or all different depending on what you prefer. I always use paints the I buy at Michael's or Walmart for about .88 cents to 1.25 each and they work perfect!

I chose to paint my tiers red, black and silver and to make the tiny pots in between white. The next part in simple. PAINT! I did about 3 coats on each, letting them drive in between each coat so that I got a rich colour and none of the terra cotta colour showed through.

Final part? Glue gun! Everyone loves a glue gun. I started with the bottom (and largest) tier and put the hot glue on the bottom of the little white pot and stuck that bad boy on, I had traced and made sure everything was center before hand. Did that for the next two tier as well and waited for the glue to dry.

 And the Viola! A freshly made makeup tower that I made for about 12 dollars!

It's been in my bathroom for about a month and so far it is working swimmingly. 

My "Stash"

Ever since I moved, I had to slowly start building up my stockpile again so here is what it looks like now! Everything on the left is body care (lotion, body wash, body sprays etc etc) the middle is sample packets from just about every brand other the sun and the right is all my shampoos, conditioners and other assorted stuff! Bottom shelf is full of candles, soaps, room sprays and other stuff that wouldn't fit up top.

I find this is the easiest way to store what I get for free or that I get a great deal on, because it's easy to see what I have, it's easy to grab and I'm able to glance in before I go shopping to see what I do and do not need! DYI Coffee Facial Scrub

Found this on a website forever and a day ago and I have used it religiously and let me assure it it is awesome! I always use those flavored coffees that you get in gift sets at Christmas so that it has a unique smell. The recipe is SUPER simple but just make sure the coffee is ground really fine, like David Tennant* fine if you catch my drift.

Ingredients:
6 tablespoons of coffee grounds
1/4 cup Olive Oil
(See? Simple right?)

Mix it until is looks like mud and then just take a bit, scrub your face and rinse!

You can keep it out for a few weeks, but I like to store mine in the fridge so that when I use it in the morning that combo of the coldness and the smell of the coffee wakes me up!

DIY Makeup Brush and Eyeliner holder

I started off with a pint mason jar that I bought at the thrift store for .79 cents and used some gold paint and gave it about 3 coats of paint allowing it to dry between coats.

Next I took some ribbon I had purchased at Michael's during one of their numerous sales, I think this ribbon ended up costing me about .50 cents, and brought out my trusty glue gun (something EVERY girl should have).

Then I just simply attached the ribbon with my glue gun and made myself something super cute to hold all my stuff instead of having it all cluttered in a drawer or sitting all over your counter.

Total cost: about 2 dollars.

Ingenious way to keep track of your bobby pins.

Start off with a package of magnetic tape! I got mine for $2.99 at Hobby Lobby.

Then I cleaned off a portion of my bathroom mirror, cut the tape to length and put up the tape!

 Then viola! The perfect way to store your bobby pins!

Thirfting

I am an avid thrift store shopper and try my best to find the best deals on things like craft items, electronics and kitchen stuff whenever I go. I also tend to scoop up a lot of books and records for pretty good deals too. I took a break from that when I moved out here to Colorado but now I'm getting back into the swing of it and I am going to start documenting my finds and doing price comparisons on what I find!
